Questions people ask
Getting started
Does Cobi Player come with channels?
No. Cobi Player is a player only: you need a provider that gives you an Xtream Codes account or an M3U playlist. To try the app first, tap Watch Preview Without a Server — it plays a few freely licensed demo streams.
Which devices and system versions does it need?
iPhone and iPad (iOS and iPadOS 18 or later), Apple TV (tvOS 18 or later) and the Mac (macOS 15 or later).
Xtream or M3U — what's the difference?
An Xtream Codes login gives you everything your provider offers: live TV, movies, series, the program guide and catch-up. From an M3U or M3U8 playlist, Cobi Player shows every entry as a live channel, with its name, logo and group — so a film in a playlist shows up as a channel, without its own Movies section, poster, plot or resume position, and playlist channels have no guide or catch-up. If your provider offers both, use the Xtream login. The full comparison is in Add an M3U playlist.
Does it play M3U8 — and a playlist's guide (EPG) link?
Both file types work: .m3u and .m3u8, as a link or, on iPhone, iPad and Mac, as a file. A separate guide link in a playlist (XMLTV) is not loaded yet, so playlist channels play without the program guide. The guide and catch-up come with an Xtream Codes account.
Would you like Cobi Player to load that guide? Suggest it as an idea and vote for it — the votes show what people want most.
How do I get my account onto my other devices?
Without typing: on the iPhone, iPad or Mac that already has it, open Settings › Transfer Account. Then, on the new device, enter the 8-digit code shown — on an Apple TV under Get Account from iPhone, on an iPhone, iPad or Mac under Settings › Get Account from Another Device. The account is offered on two routes at once — directly across your local network (the devices don't even have to be on the same Wi-Fi) and through your own iCloud, encrypted with that code. The offer lasts 10 minutes; “Cancel” ends it earlier. One exception: an M3U playlist you imported as a file cannot travel — it lives in this device's storage. Add that playlist by URL instead and the transfer works.
Can I use more than one provider?
Yes. Add as many profiles as you like — Xtream logins and M3U playlists side by side — and switch between them with your profile picture: at the top right on iPhone and Apple TV, at the foot of the bar on the left on iPad and Mac. Each keeps its own favorites, history and customized lists.
Is the app in my language?
Very likely. Cobi Player speaks 15 languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean and Swedish. It follows your device's language, and you can pick another one under Settings › Language. This website is in English.
Is there a version for Android, Fire TV or Windows?
Not yet. Cobi Player is made for Apple devices: iPhone and iPad (iOS and iPadOS 18 or later), Apple TV (tvOS 18 or later) and the Mac (macOS 15 or later). Maybe one day: an idea for an Android version is already on the idea board — vote for it there. Would you rather have Fire TV, Windows or something else? Suggest it as a new idea.
Devices & sync
What syncs between my devices — and what doesn't?
Synced, between iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac: favorites and folders, the recently watched list, resume positions and the episodes you finished, your customized lists (hidden and pinned) and the settings that belong to the account.
Not synced, deliberately: your login itself (it stays in the Keychain on each device, apart from a transfer you start yourself), the PIN of the content lock and whether it is unlocked — a lock must not open itself over the cloud — and the app language, which stays a per-device choice.
Sync doesn't reach my Apple TV.
First check that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account and have iCloud switched on, then tap “Link Account” in the sync settings. Worth knowing: an Apple TV can use one Apple Account for iCloud and another for purchases, and only the iCloud one matters here. More in the sync guide.
One honest limitation. If an Apple TV has several user profiles, apps use the iCloud account of the default profile — which may belong to someone else in the household, no matter who is watching. tvOS has no switch for this: changing the default profile means removing it and adding an Apple Account again, which affects everyone who uses it (Apple’s steps). Until then, sync can stay empty on such a device even though everything is set up correctly. Sending your account with a code is barely affected: it also travels directly between the devices, whatever iCloud account the Apple TV uses.
Cobi Player Pro
Is Cobi Player free?
Yes. Cobi Player is free to download and to watch — forever, on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac.
If you like it, you can support the developer with Cobi Player Pro and get much more: device sync, folders, your own lists, the player extras and your own look. One Pro covers all your devices, for a year or as a one-time purchase.
What is Cobi Player Pro?
Cobi Player Pro makes the app yours, on all your devices at once. It adds device sync (favorites, folders, your lists and Continue Watching, the same everywhere), folders for your favorites, your own lists (hide what you never watch, pin what you love), the player extras (sleep timer, speed, audio and subtitle timing) and your own look — and it removes the ads on iPhone and iPad.
Watching stays free without it. What Pro costs
Why is “New Folder” asking me to buy?
Creating folders is part of Cobi Player Pro. Marking favorites stays free.
If Pro ends, your folders are switched off and all your favorites appear together. Nothing is deleted: with Pro, everything is back exactly as it was.
Can I get hidden channels back without Pro?
Yes — without Pro, your customizations are switched off and every list shows everything again. Nothing is deleted: with Pro, everything is back exactly as it was.
What are Scenes?
A Scene puts a picture behind your lists, with colors of its own — you choose it under Settings › Appearance. Scenes are not part of Pro: each one is a purchase of its own, for every device with the same Apple Account. With Pro it costs less, and a scene you bought stays yours, even if Pro ends.
Watching
A channel won't play.
Some servers freeze a stream after a few seconds — tap Reload (↻) or reopen the channel; the app also notices a frozen picture and reconnects on its own. If a live channel never starts, try the other stream format — the button reads Format .m3u8 or Format .ts — and check whether it plays in another app: if it plays nowhere, the problem is at the provider. More in When a channel won't play.
The guide shows the wrong program.
If every channel is off by the same whole hours, your provider writes its times in its own time zone as if they were UTC. Cobi Player notices that and corrects it by itself. If it still looks wrong, set Program Times in the profile to Provider’s Local Time. More in The guide and catch-up.
How does Picture in Picture work?
Start a video, then leave the app — it keeps playing in a floating window, or carries on as audio. On iPhone and iPad. Subtitles don't show in the floating window; they come back in the full player.
Does it support AirPlay?
There's no AirPlay button in the player. For the TV, Cobi Player has its own Apple TV app: it plays your provider directly, with the guide and Continue Watching on the home screen. Set up the Apple TV.
Need AirPlay anyway? Suggest it as an idea — the votes show what people want most.
