When a channel won't play

Most channels that won't play are a provider problem — here's how to tell.

Most channels that won’t play are a problem at the provider — but a few checks find out in a minute.

Quick checks

  1. Try a second channel from the same provider. If that one plays, the first channel is down at the provider.
  2. Try the channel in another player. If it doesn’t play anywhere, the problem is at the provider.
  3. Reload. Some servers freeze a stream after a few seconds — tap Reload (↻) or open the channel again. The app also notices a frozen picture and reconnects on its own.
  4. Retry, or switch the format. If “Playback Failed” appears, try Retry first. On a live channel of an Xtream account, the player also offers the provider’s other stream format: the button reads Format .m3u8 or Format .ts, after the format it switches to.

Only one stream at a time

Many providers allow one connection per account. If the account is playing on another device — or in another app — the next stream may be refused. Cobi Player closes the previous stream completely before it starts the next one, so switching channels on one device is fine.

Good to know

  • Subtitles don’t show in Picture in Picture: the small window mirrors the video only. They come back in the full player.
  • If your provider needs a VPN, it has to be running on the device that plays.
